STRL Charger Busch Division ---- Information Page
Background
Back in 2001, the first two divisions of STRL were
the Charger Division (Thursday Nights) and
the Challenger Division (Friday Nights). The
Charger division was originally a fixed setup division but then in 2002
began to include open setup racing to increase driver attendance.
The division flourished as attendance rose.
As STRL expanded with more options for racing on
different nights for its members, it became obvious that STRL was
comprised of a wide variety of drivers ranging from the very best sim
racers on the internet anywhere to very accountable drivers who love the
rush of speed and racing competition but lack the knowledge,
experience, or time to learn and set up cars. It was
obvious to the STRL administration that many drivers within STRL are true
champions with respect to their accountability and devotion to STRL.
For this reason, the administration decided to move
the Charger division back to its roots as a "Fixed Set-up" Division.
Drivers with neither the time nor the experience to set up a car would now
have the opportunity to run a full season of exciting racing that will
"somewhat" parallel the NASCAR Busch Series Schedule. The 2004 Charger Division
is designed to promote intense and exciting racing while promoting new
faces to be frequently seen in Victory lane and ultimately finish with a
brand new STRL Division Champion holding up a trophy.
Just like in real NASCAR racing where many of the
world's best drivers from NASCAR's Nextel Cup Division are limited from
running in ALL the Busch Grand National Division races, STRL officials
will limit attendance for certain STRL members whom fans see in Victory
Lane quite often. In the Nextel Cup, many drivers are limited from
running the entire Busch Season because of scheduling differences between
the 2 divisions. Often the Nextel Cup and Busch races are held at
different tracks disallowing the Nextel Cup premiere drivers from gaining
enough points to win a Busch Championship. Sure, the Cup drivers may
win a bunch of races, but they won't win a championship. In STRL,
the schedule was designed that a group of "Restricted drivers" will not be
able to attend many Charger Busch races that are held at the same track as
was held at the Road Runner or Challenger Cup race earlier that week.
In missing many races compared to unrestricted Charger drivers, the
restricted drivers will be at a significant disadvantage for competing for
any Championship.
A brand-new STRL Champion is on the horizon and
will be crowned in the Fall of 2004.
Restricted Drivers
These drivers have demonstrated exceptional
talent by winning more than 1 race per season within any premiere
division (Road Runner, Charger, Challenger) since the league's inception
back in 2001. Because of their past success in STRL, they are
limited to running only certain events within Charger.
