 HIGHLIGHTS OF STRL IROC Race #20

Six STRL IROC drivers rev their engines at Talladega Superspeedway to start IROC Race #20, the final race of the 2004 Season.  Jeff Christianson (orange) and Gary Stephenson (gold)  make up the front row.
Green, green, green!!  The green dropped to start the 38 lap final event.
The Overall point leader, Pat Vinet (black), worked himself to the front on Lap 9.
STRL Newcomer, Mario Jones (sky blue), found himself leading the race on Lap 10.
Lapper Bean Delphiki (light red) exits the pits while the leaders are all pitting on Lap 14.
Gary Stephenson (gold) leads the field on Lap 25.  He would go on to lead a race high 17 laps.
First and second in points, Pat Vinet (black) and Jeff Christianson (orange) duke it out 2 wide for the lead for a last time with 5 laps to go.
On Lap 34, leaders Gary Stephenson (gold) and Pat Vinet (black) touch and spin coming toward the trioval.  The rest of the field narrowly misses the spinning duo.
Mike Richter (forest green) wins his first STRL IROC event of the season ahead of Jeff Christianson under caution.
The field follows race winner, Mike Richter (forest green), across the final stripe to end the 2004 STRL IROC season.

 

 

 HIGHLIGHTS OF STRL IROC Race #19

Six STRL IROC drivers rev their engines at Chicagoland Speedway to start IROC Race #19.  Gary Stephenson (gold) and David Queen (red-orange) make up the front row.
David Queen (red-orange) takes the lead going into Turn 1 on Lap 1.
After Anthony Wendover (purple) would take the lead, David Queen (red-orange) comes right back to take the lead back on Lap 6.
On Lap 8, racing gets too close as David Queen (red-orange) gets a fender on Anthony Wendover (purple) sending him for a rough encounter with the Turn 1-2 wall.
Jeff Christianson (orange) uses the apron to go three wide and takes 2nd place on Lap 19.  Gary Stephenson (gold) rides with a comfortable lead as the pack behind goes back and forth changing places.
Evan Barney (mauve) takes the lead from Gary Stephenson (gold) on Lap 24.
Racing gets too close between leader Evan Barney (mauve) and Jeff Christianson (orange) on Lap 36 sending Barney (mauve) for a slide down the front-stretch.
Gary Stephenson (gold) takes the checkered flag for the second time in 2004 STRL IROC.

 

 HIGHLIGHTS OF STRL IROC Race #18

Seven STRL IROC drivers rev their engines at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to start IROC Race #18.  Jeff Christianson (orange) and Michael Chalk (scarlet) make up the front row.
Michael Chalk (scarlet) wins the race to Turn 1 at Indy. 
Anthony Wendover (purple) makes a pass for the lead.  Jeff Christianson (orange) follows behind and also makes the pass on Michael Chalk (scarlet).
Gary Stephenson (gold) and David Queen (red-orange) battle for 6th place on Lap 4.  Both are tracking down Evan Barney (mauve).
On Lap 10, Anthony Wendover (purple) and the rest of the pack enters the pits under green for their first green flag stop.
Pat Vinet (black) wins the race off pit road.   Jeff Christianson (orange), who entered second, would leave in 5th place after running out of gas while entering pit road.
Anthony Wendover (purple) and Pat Vinet (black) battle back and forth for the lead on Lap 18.  Wendover (purple) would lead for a race high 17 laps and Vinet (black) would lead for 6 laps.
Positions 3 through 6 would mix it up well on Lap 25.  Michael Chalk (scarlet) leads the foursome.
Michael Chalk (scarlet) passes Jeff Christianson (orange) for the lead on Lap 27 with just 5 laps to go.
After winning his first STRL IROC event ever, Michael Chalk (scarlet) parked his Pontiac on the famed bricks of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, got out of the car, waved to the crowd, and then proceeded to assist a pair of Hooter's girls into his car for some victory laps around the entire speedway.  During the Victory laps, the scarlet Pontiac was seen to be weaving violently down the backstretch.

 

 

 HIGHLIGHTS OF STRL IROC Race #17

Eight STRL IROC drivers rev their engines at Daytona International Speedway to start IROC Race #17.  Evan Barney (mauve) and Michael Chalk (scarlet) make up the front row.

The field slowly approaches the drop of the green flag.

On Lap 2, Michael Chalk (scarlet) makes a pass for the lead on Evan Barney (mauve) coming out of Turn 2.

On Lap 9, Michael Chalk (scarlet) and Evan Barney (mauve) make contact in Turn 3 and ultimately collect Jeff Christianson (orange) while David Queen (red-orange) and Jeff Bratcher (gray) slide low to avoid.  Christianson (orange) would finish 8th.

On Lap 14, the top 3 leaders get too close for comfort while going 170 mph down the back stretch.  David Queen (red-orange), Pat Vinet (black) and Gary Stephenson (gold) go three wide behind lapper Anthony Wendover (purple).  Some banging would result and brought out the second caution flag.

STRL IROC newcomer David Queen (red-orange) made his first IROC event in 2004.  Here on Lap 19, he runs third as Jeff Bratcher (gray) and Gary Stephenson (gold) go low to pass.

The race leaders make a green flag pit-stop on Lap 32.  Leader Pat Vinet (black) takes right side tires while Gary Stephenson (gold) takes only gas.

Gary Stephenson (gold) would take the lead racing out of the pits on Lap 32  because of his "gas and go."

After Pat Vinet (black) would take the lead back from Stephenson (gold) soon after exiting the pits, Stephenson (gold) would retake the lead for the final time on Lap 37.

Gary Stephenson (gold) takes his first STRL checkered flag  in any division!  He won by a mere car-length over Season Point Leader, Pat Vinet (black).

Gary Stephenson (gold) tears up the infield grass at Daytona in celebration of his first IROC win and his first STRL win ever!

 

 HIGHLIGHTS OF STRL IROC Race #16

Nine STRL IROC drivers pace down the backstretch at Dover International Speedway to start IROC Race #16.  Rob Decker (#pink) and Michael Chalk (scarlet) make up the front row.

Michael Chalk (scarlet) would lead early on Lap 4.

On Lap 5,things get hairy as Pat Vinet (black) gets loose on the apron.  This would lead to a near 4 wide coming out of Turn 2.

Rob Decker (pink) and Guy Seela (royal blue) get airborne after Decker (pink) pounded a a smoke covered Seela (royal blue) on the backstretch.  This incredible shot was taken from the roof cam of Bean Delphiki (light red).

On Lap 17, Jeff Christianson (orange) leads but Anthony Wendover (purple) looks low for an opportunity in Turn 1.

Season Point Leader Pat Vinet (black) makes a move for the lead on Lap 27.  He makes the pass on Anthony Wendover (purple) in Turn 3.

During the last round of green flag pit-stops, STRL veterans Bill Hull (dark gray) and Bean Delphiki (light red) battle for the lead in Turn 4.

Anthony Wendover (purple) takes the checkered flag in front and wins his first STRL IROC event ever!

Anthony Wendover (purple) lights 'em up celebrating his first IROC win in front of an excited Delaware crowd containing many of his New York fan club who made the trip to the race!
