During the 1970's and 1980's, Larry Detjens
became a favorite driver of many Wisconsin race fans. Detjens
raced on many Wisconsin short-tracks and throughout the Midwest.
During this time he raced with the likes of Dick Trickle, Alan
Kulwicki, Jim Sauter, Larry Phillips, Tom Reffner, Dave Watson, Ted
Musgrave, and Joe Shear. He was always a contender and won
many events. One of his most significant accomplishments was
winning the inaugural Slinger (Miller) Nationals in 1981.

Later in 1981, Detjens fans would lose this
great driver to a fatal crash at the Wisconsin International Raceway
in Kaukauna, WI. Slinger (Miller) Nationals officials quickly
decided to rename the Miller Nationals trophy to the Larry Detjens
Memorial trophy in his honor.

Larry Detjens' two nephews, Scott and Chris
Wimmer, now carry on the racing tradition.
